Post-interview shot to promote Regina AfroFest.
Hello there! I thought I’d get things started by sharing a snippet of my story, so we can get acquainted.
I’m an accomplished Communications Professional with over 15 years in the Communications industry. I have a Masters in Professional Communications and have been a member of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) since 2017.
I specialize in brand development and have extensive experience in the corporate and community space, creating memorable events. Much of the work I do involves using my project management and public relations skills to help businesses plan the production, content, and communications that are key to the success of their events.
How it Started
I like to say I stumbled on the concept of event planning.
I’m originally from Ghana, and I have been living in Canada for over 25 years. I like to stay close to my African heritage through community service. Some years ago, when I launched a large-scale music festival called Regina AfroFest, I soon realized how complex and challenging it is to plan and execute an event. Even more so, I realized that well-planned, intentional events can help build and grow a brand. As the Executive Director and Founder of the Non-profit organization AfroFusion Entertainment Inc., I was able to raise thousands of dollars and worked with several community partners and companies, to bring a community together and create the only African music festival in Saskatchewan. Through this initiative, our team was able to diversify the festival landscape in the region, create exposure for upcoming cultural artists, and add a little boost to tourism in the area.
After successfully planning the festival, I started to get requests from other non-profit organizations to help them plan their campaigns and events. I also started to apply these skills in my full-time job and quickly learned that events are an important business tactic.
Here, I hope to share my knowledge and experience as I continue to navigate the world of event planning and brand development.
